After the massive tome of The Hazard of Secrets, The Hazard for Spies clocked in at 58,091 words, very close to my 60,000-word goal. The longer books that expand massively shake my belief in my planning self; these novels that match to my goal reassure me that I'm not totally wrong.
The Hazard for Spies as story did exactly what I intended: it finished off the French spy plot that started in The Game of Secrets and The Game of Spies and continued in The Dangers for Spies. It brought back ~ one more time ~ Chief Constable Hector Evans (from The Dangers to Hearts and The Key to Secrets--and also The Hazard of Secrets. Also, it finished off the story with the children Vic, Elise, and Hank, introduced in The Hazard of Secrets.
The story had a LOT to do. It managed it. The writing went smoothly--once I tackled it. 😎
