 This novel was a pleasure to write. I didn't really like Gordon Musgrove when I conceived him as a character in A Game of Spies. However, as I explored his situation and learned the motivation behind his comments to Josette in that novel, I began liking him.

The character Maddy brought out the best in Gordon. She has the personality needed to offset his more serious one.
